WANDERING STOCK

COUNCIL TAKES ACTION. “The council is the laughing stock of everyone,” declared Councillor D. Sloane at yesterday’s meeting of the Alakara County Council after the county clerk had read a letter from a ratepayer complaining of wandering stock on the Titahi Bay road. “Innumerable sheep are on.the Titahi Bay road every day,’ he said, “and people out there are beginning to think the council is not functioning at all. It is an absolute joke and the road is a standing disgrace. The wandering stock op the roads are a menace to the district, and every night after certain hours cattle are deliberately turned out to graze on to the roads. The- Titahi Bay road is the worst for wandering stock in the Wellington province. We must engage a proper ranger or erect a pound out there. The ranger is at present neglecting his duties on the road.” The council passed a resolution urging the ranger-to give effect to a,previous resolution of the council authorising him to procure any assistance necessary to secure the removal of wandering stock to the pound.
