JOHNSONVILLE ROAD
TO BE PAVED THIS MONTH Residents of Johnsonville who have for years been sadlv harassed by the dust and dirt caused by the stream of traffic for ever pouring through the township, will be pleased to learn that the ntain road there is to be paved this month. At a meeting of the Wellington City and Suburban Highways Board the city engineer (Mr. Hart) said that a start would be made with the paving of the road in question in about a fortnight’s time. Mr. A. Moore (chairman of the Johnsonville Town Board) asked the chairman if he would approach the Public Works Department with the request that the strip of roadway to be paved should be 24ft. instead of 18ft. Mr. K. E. Luke (of the City Engineer’s Department) said that all along the Main Highways Board had set its face resolutely against subsidising any road over 18ft. in width, and did not think that board would contribute anything toward the extra width. Finally it was agreed to approach the Main Highways Board on the subject, and that if they refused to contribute to the extra width, the extra 6ft. be paved at the expense of the City and Suburban Highways Board.
