BRIBERY CHARGES
UNION OFFICIAL’S ALLEGATIONS ROYAL COMMISSION ASKED FOR (Rec. February 9, 11.10 p.m.) Sydney, February 9. Mr. Buttenshaw, the Acting-Premier, announced that the Council of the Miners’ Federation had written to him stating that “in view of the fact that Mr. Hoare alleged that D. Cook,. who claimed to be acting on behalf of N. R. Kirk, who we understand is a director of the Stockton Borehole Colliery, had paid him considerable amounts 'rom time to time to keep the mine ontinuouslv working, and that Mr. loare furtlie- alleges that Mr. Cook, b; strong inference, implicated others as,, having received payments for such pitposes, we ask the Ministry to appofot a Roval Commission to inquire intej the charges.” Wj. Buttenshaw informed the council that jie would have to discuss the matter vith Cabinet before a Royal Comtnissbn could be appointed.
