MILK DEPARTMENT
ENGLISH PLANT CHEAPER THAN AMERICAN Cabled advice has been received from Mr. R. Herron, general manager of the milk department, recommending the purchase of English plant, with two exceptions, for the new milk station. 'fhe milk committee has authorised the general manager to obtain specifications and working plans for the erection of the plant, and to ;nake the fullest inquiries to enable local engineers to erect the plant on its arrival. When this was reported to the City Council last night Councillor W. H. Bennett said that several matters of interest had occurred during the last few days. The Deputy-Prime Minister of Queensland (Mr. F. Smith) had visited the depot, and they had been able to clean up several matters about which the Queensland people were in doubt. A cablegram had been received from Mr. Herron, in which he stated that he was able to get the whole of the machinery necessary for the new plant cheaper in England than in America. The Mayor said it was gratifying to hear that England was now able to compete successfully against the American manufacturers.
