Great Enthusiasm New All British Six Cylinder Model. STANDARD TT/ie best Standaril ever built “The best Standard ever built” was the general opinion of all those who saw the all-British Standard SixCylinder Model when it was demonstrated on the streets during the last few days. This new model was greeted with great enthusiasm and acclamation by everyone who saw it. One item in particular which gained great attention wag the extremely simple method by which this new model is oiled. The nipples on all oiling points face upwards and can be reached with the grease gun without any necessity of getting under the car. This greasing, which is generally the messiest job attached to a motor-car is wonderfully efficient and clean in the new Standard model. Owners of this Six Model will not follow the example of most motorists by sending the car into a garage to be greased but will find that.they can do the job cleanly and quickly by themselves. The time it takes to grease the new Standard Model completely is about a minute and a half. This new Six Model, too. has been complimented on its great economy. For a six-cylinder car the great mileage that this new All-British Standard model does to a gallon of gasoline, to a gallon of oil, and to a small amount of cup grease is nothing- short of amazing. The car is also very economical on tyres. Fitted as it is with English Dunlon Balloons that are renowned for their lasting and wearing abilities. The lightness of this new Standard car combined with its strength and roadability make it one of the most economical six-cylinder cars in the matter of tyres. Though the price for the Touring Model is £550, the Coupe £595, and the Saloon £650, the beauty of the car is in no way indicated by the price. Where an ordinary-looking car would be expected, judging by the price, this new Standard has low long stream-lines, has horizontal vents on the side of the bonnet giving an added appearance of lowness and luxury and a fine finish that should attract the most fastidious lady driver. Comfort, too, has not been overlooked. All the models, open and closed are roomy and wonderfully restful to sit in. No matter how long you drive during the day, the soft pliableness of the upholstery, which is made in real grained leather, is a guarantee that at the end of the day you will feel as fresh as you would after an ordinary day’s driving in town. S The new model is reinforced for strength, a fact that was noticed by those who saw the car demonstrated. Also the convenience of the car was a matter for praise. The dash-board holds among other features- a petrol gauge that eliminates the necessity of getting out of the car and looking in the tank at the rear to see how much gasoline there is left. There is an instrument which tells if the engine is being oiled correctly. As soon as oil is stopped being fed this instrument registers on the dashboard, thus no chance is allowed for the failure of the car to get as much oil as it requires. . The new model has also a sevenbearing crankshaft. This great improvement ensures perfectly smooth running of the engine under all sorts of conditions. It is also of. great value in keeping the ear’s engine in good condition and the addition of this great principle to the new Standard car has been complimented on by many engineers and motor-car authorities. It is just one example of the many great improvements that have been made in this new Standard model, in an endeavour to make it the best Standard ever buijt. The horse power of the New Six is IS, developing 42. This is the RAC rating, and the horse power, as reckoned in American terms, is about 25. Such a horse power as this immediately shows that the new car is a top gear car, that will elimb any hill with no difficulty whatsoever. This should immediately appeal to owners who desire speed, power, and hill-climbing ability. A proof of the high gearing of this model is demonstrated by the fact that its top gear ratio is 4.6 in the open models, and 5.25 iu the Sedans and Coupes. AU models are fitted with overhead valves, thus adding more to the efficiency of this new SixCylinder Standard. The new model, too, has been designed for complete safety. Mechanical fourwheel brakes, recognised as the most dependable of all four-wheel brakes, are fitted to the new Standards, and the great adjustment of them, coijibined with the ease with which they act, is an assurance that no accidents will be suffered in this car through the cause of faulty brakes. These brakes are internal expanding, the foot brake acting on all four wheels and the hand brake on the rear wheels by a Separate shoe. This gives the car two independent braking systems. Another safety feature is the ease with which the car can be steered. Practically one finger can turn the steering wheel, making this new model ideal for lady drivers. The car has four speeds forward, and one reverse, and is particularly silent in the gear change. Great trouble has'been gone to to get this change of gear’s; as perfect as possible. Exact timing and gear teeth that have been specially ground, and are made of case-hardened nickel chrome are two items which account for this remarkably silent; gear change. The car has a 12-volt electric system, which ensures immediate starting. It. also is very quick on the pick-up, getting off the mark very rapidly—a great boon in crowded traffic, A very efficient type of vacuum tank is also fitted to the car. This vacuum tank is almost impossible to put out of order, and the owners of this new Standard Six Cylinder model are certain that no inconvenience will be caused by the car’s failing to get its correct petrol supply. The gasoline tank, which is full-sized, is in a handy position at the rear of the car. . Equipment on the new Six Model includes Spare Wheel and Tyre. Luggage Grid, Driving Mirror, Speedometer. SDay Clock, 2 Dash Lamps, Ash Trays, Oil and Petrol Gauges, Automatic Screen Wiper,. Locking arrangement on all doors. Electric Starter, and 12-volt Lighting Set with 5 lamps. Switchboard, Electric Horn, Petrol Can and Carrier, License Holder. Spring Gaiters, Shock Absorbers, Plain Number Plates, Full Kit of Tools and Spares. Ope of the greatest compliments that this new model received was when a man who saw it in its chassis form on the Street said: "It's a tine enough car all right, but too high-priced. No one wants to pay £750 for any make of car.” The price of the new models, as mentioned before, is only £550 for the Touring. £595 for the Coupe, and £650 for the Saloon. Regarding the closed models, the interior is remarkably up-to-date, with soft, attractive, leather upholstery, in a shade to match the colour of the car’s exterior, and has many items which add to the Comfort and luxury of the car. Front seats, too, arc adjustable, so that, a “sixfooter” can drive the new Standard models in as much comfort as an ordinary sized man or woman. All these fine features and great improvements on the new Standard, combined witli its most moderate price, indicate that Standard cars will be in greater demand than ever from now on. No one who has seen the car has failed to praise it. Great enthusiasm has been shown wherever the c;rr has been seen.
