“NORTHUMBERLAND” ROCK

SWEEPING OPERATIONS.

The Marine Department issued a notice yesterday, on the authority of the Commodore Commanding the New Zealand Station, thnt, from daybreak; op February 13, sweeping operations will be conefucted in the vicinity of the reported position of the Northumberland Rock, on the Ariel Bank, off Gisborne. The operations will probably last several days, and the area will be marked by unlighled buoys. Vessels are warned to keep well clear of the area. Further notice will be issued when the operations are completed, and the buoys withdrawn.
