VISIT TO PALESTINE

PRESENTATION TO REV. DAVID CALDER

The Rev. David Calder, 8.A., who, accompanied by Mrs. Calder, will, leave to-morrow for Palestine and London, was entertained at luncheon yesterday by members of the Dominion Council of the British and Foreign Bible Society, of which he is general secretary. There were about twenty present, including representatives from the four Dominion centres. The arrangements were ill the charge ot Mrs. F. Porter (organising secretary for the Wellington Province), who presented each guest with a dainty buttonhole. Mr. G. A. Troup (the Mayor), who presided, welcomed the members from the other centres, saying that lie was pleased that they' were able to be present to bid farewell to one who was about to pay so important a visit both to Palestine and to London. Mr. Troup stated that while in Palestine Mr. Calder Mould act as a New Zealand representative on the International Mission

Council. Later, in London, he would do work in connection with the British and Foreign Bible Society. The Mayor eulogised the good work of Mr. Calder during his term of office in New Zealand, and said that he felt sure that Mr. Calder well deserved his trip. On behalf' of those present he presented Mr. Calder with a camera in a leather case. Messr. G. Stening (Christchurch), R. L. Button (Wellington), E. P. Hay (Wellington), and E. Rosevear (Otago) also spoke, after which Mr. Calder returned thanks for the presentation, which, he said, would be more than useful. He said that he felt proud to be able to go as a delegate to the International Council, which limits its number to two hundred. He also returned thanks on behalf of Airs. Calder, who had always been ready to take an interest in all his work.
