TUNNEL COMPLETELY WRECKED B? Telegraph.—phess association. Westport, February 8. Through a fire breaking through the stoppings, and gaining the rope haulage, an explosion occurred which completely demolished the Clay Pit coal mine at Seddonville yesterday. The mine was owned by a co-operative party. The mine was clear at the time. Once the fire reached the haulage rope the ventilation caused it to spread rapidly A few minutes later an explosion occurred, completely wrecking the tunnel. The mine is a total loss, and all the tubs, rails, and tools were destroyed. The Clay Pit mine was part of 'the old Cardiff mine. The fire has been burning for the past thirty years, and •for years has required constant attention. Before Christmas it gave a great deal of trouble.
