PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE

COMMON FUND SYSTEM. In view of the discussions which have ariven at different times as to the merits and demerits of the common fund system of investment of trust funds in the Public Trust Office, it is interesting to learn that a proposal is now under consideration by (he private trust companies in the United States of America to establish a system on somewhat similar lines by the pooling of their trust investments.

The matter has proved of the greatest interest, and it has been the subject of discussion in the States for some considerable time. The Prime Minister (Right 'Hon. J. G. Coates) announced yesterday that the editor of the “Trust Companies Magazine,” which is the leading American journal devoted to trust company, banking, and financial interests, has now asked the Public Trustee c." New Zealand to contribute, for publication in the magazine, an article setting out the experiences of the New Zealand Public Trust Office in connection with the methods and working of its common fund system, to assist the various companies interested in their consideration of the matter.
