SOMERSET LEAVES LIVERPOOL. Cabled news has been received by the Federal Company that the Somerset left Liverpool on February 7 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff. The vessel is due at Auckland on March 20. and at Wellington a week later.

DEWEY AT AUCKLAND. With case oil, lumber, and general cargo from Pacific Coast ports, the A.A.O. Line steamer Dewey arrived at Auckland ou Monday evening. Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Ikala left Newport News on Saturday, en route from St. John to New Zealand ports Tim vessel is due at Auckland on March 11. and at Wellington a week later. The Ikala will also discharge at Lyttelton. Dunedin, and New Plymouth, but will not discharge at Sydney or Melbourue. as at first intended.

News by cablegram has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Norfolk arrived at Panama on Febaiary 4 from Auckland, and sailed again on February 5 for London aim West Coast ports of Gieat Britain. Hie vessel left Auckland on January 14. THE NORTHUMBERLAND. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that tlie Northumberland is due at Wellington to-day from Napier, and will berth at the Glasgow Wharf to complete loading. Savill and Albiou Company that the Matatua left Suva on Tuesday for Dunedin, in continuation of her voyage from London. Tho vessel is due at Dunedin on Sunday morning. RUAPEHU LEAVES PANAMA. The New Zealand Shipping Company have been notified by cablegram that the Ruapehu left, Panama on Sunday for New Zealand ports, en route from London ami Southampton. Tlie vessel is duo at Wellington on February 28.

THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. The Canadian Challenger arrived at Auckland at 9 a.m. yesterday from Halifax. and beithed at 10.30 a.m to unload part cargo. She will leave Auckland tonight for Wellington, and is due here on Sunday morning.

PORT BOWEN ’I'O LOAD. The C and D. Line, steamer Port Bowen is .tlie at Opua on February 18 from Australia. to commence loading for London and West Coast ports of Great Britain From Opua the vessel will proceed to Auckland, where she is due about February 20. The Port Bowen will afterwards visit Gisborne. Napier, Wellington, ami New Plymouth, and return thence to Auckland to fill up. She is due at Auckland on Marell 6. and will sail finally from that port on March 10.

MANUKA LEAVES MELBOURNE. Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Manuka left Melbourne at 10 a.in. yesterday for Bluff. Dunedin. Lvttelton. and Wellington. Tlie vessel is due nt Bluff on Monday, nnd at Wellington the following Friday. She is time 1 to leave here again the iollowing afternoon for Melbourne. via Milford Wound.

SWEEPING OPERATIONS. The Marine Department reports that the Commodore commanding the New Zealand station has issued the following advice;—"Mariners are warned that from

daybreak on February 13 sweeping operations will be conducted in the vicinity ol tlie reported position of the Northumberland Hock, off Gisborne. These operations will probably last several days, and the area will be marked by unkiglited buoys. Vessels are warned to keep well clear of the area.” Further notice will be issued when the operations are completed, and the buoys withdrawn.

Wanganui harbour, at a position 730 ft. (approx.) from its seaward end. The upper portion of Hie groyne .will be exposed 10ft. above M.H.W.S., and from its inner end tlie groyne will take a westerly curve to its outer end. During construction and alter eqinpletion tlie outer end of tlie groyne wilt be marked by a fixed white light. On completion of the groyne tlie existing channel width of oOOl't. between North and South Moles will, at a distance of about 450 ft. within the entrance, be lest rictcd to 350 ft. (approx.) No further notice will be given. KINTYRE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. At 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the steamer Kintyre arrived at New Plymouth with a cargo of phosphates from Casablanca. Morocco.
