NATIVE CHIEF’S WORK. BY Telegraph.—Press association. Christchurch, February 8. At Addington this morning, there were a large number of spectators to see Native Chief work. He was walked, round once, and then Kennerley set him to work from the two-mile post, but ho came up to the mark at a break, and had to be pulled up. He did not' go away too well the second time, but Im went to the furlong post iu 15sec., and the quarter peg was reached in 29 l-ssec. He reached the winning post, which was half a mile, in 59 1-5 sec. As that was all his driver intended to do.’Native Chief was eased up, but he went the next half-mile in Iniin. Bsec., and the mile in 2niin. 7 l-ssec. Jogging apparently at about half speed over the rest of the journey. Native Chief did the mile and a quarter in 2min. 49see. He went the first six furlong’s ill Imin. 32 3-ssce. As Native Chief was only out to work hat*’ a t'"'le. no notice need he '.ikon of the other part of his work, but he showed gi-'gt speed.
