There were few of the many "benchers ’’ nt Narrow Neck Beach on a recent afternoon who did not flock to the Cheltenham end when a shark was seen (says the Auckland "Star"). Swimming right in near the rocks, the shark, which was thought to be nearly 6ft. long, was even so close that anyone could have touched it with a long stick Hooks and lines were soon brought, and two men put out in a boat to try to catch the invader. It disappeared, but no sooner hail the crowd drifted away than if was seen again. Although a close watch was kept, and there was a lot of preparation in case it could be caught, the shark swam quietly away, well beyond the. danger zone.
