Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterI day - "You will be sentenced to ‘2l days I imprisonment, so you will have a chance to get the drink out ot your system, said the Magistrate to James Russell, a labourer, aged 6a, who appeared lor sentence on a charge of being found by night, wilhoout lawful excuse, but in cireuinslances not disclosing the intent to commit any other offence, in an enclosed area in Wakefield Street. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that accused had been before the Court on Monday morning on the charge mentioned. The Magistrate then gave him a chance and ordered hint to come up for sentence when called upon within three months. “Last night/' went on the Sub-Inspector, •‘Russell was found wandering around the city in a drunken condition. He was told to go home by a constable, but, as ho refused, he was taken into custody.” A charge of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support which bad been preferred , against accused was withdrawn by leave of Court. David McConvey, aged 49, was fined 10s., in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for his second offence of drunkenness. John Denis Brosnan, a ship’s fireman, aged 21, John Casey a seaman, aged 53, and Alorton Sanders, a labourer, aged 32, all pleaded guilty to being found by night without lawful excuse, but in circumstances not disclosing the intent to commit any other offence, in the Fletcher Corporation Co.'s timber yards on Pipitea Point. Tlie three accused were convicted and ordered to come up lor sentence when called upon within twelve months. They were ordered to go and stay nt the Salvation Army Home, Miramar, until they secured employment. BY-LAW CASES By-law offenders were dealt with by -Ur. J. 11. Salmon, S.M.. For using an unlicensed motor-car, Allan Jack Salter was fined A 3. The following were.fined the amounts stated for speeding:—Harold Roberts, A 3; Huia Smith and Clarence M. Spier, Ad .each; William Edward Prisfley, Al. James Roderick Clements and George Joseph Park were each fined 10s. for leaving their cars unattended. The Harrison Ramsay Pty., Ltd., was fined a like amount for a similar offence. Failing to keep his vehicle to the left cost Edward H. Liddle, Al. George Ryan was fined 10s. for leaving his car more than a foot from the kerb. Stanley Evans was fined Al for failing to notify the change of 'ownership of b.is car. Edna Masters, Gilbert Shirer Davidson, Claude W. Hampton, George Alexander Brown, Cedric Francis Ferriss, Charles 11. Fletcher, Peter Richardson Grant, Thirwall Hayward, Leonard Patrick Hagan, Maurice James McElligott, George C. Smith, Harry George Salmon, l.’ichard Henry Stephens, and Henry Leyden 'Turnbull were each fined 10s. for not having their vehicles properly lighted. CIVIL BUSINESS
