MAN’S POCKET PICKED. In tlie Supreme Court yesterday, before the Chief Justice (Sir Charles Skerrett), George Wallace, and Edward Lawson (both represented by Mr. W. E. Leicester) were found guilty by the jury after half an hour’s retirement, of the theft of .£l3 from the person of Paul Aurisch. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. P. S. K. ’ Macassey) stated that on November 19, in the Paekakariki Kailway Station refreshment rooms, the accused were observed pressing against Aurisch, while one of them (Wallace) was feeling toward's Aurisch’s iiip picket. The room was crowded with people returning from Levin races. Aurisch was told of the suspicion entertained towards the two men, while he also found his 4.13 missing. The guard was informed, and got in touch with the police, and the train, on arrival at Wellington, was met by detectives, who interview accused, and searched them at the station, finding 4!5 on one and .C 6 in the other. A third suspect had disappeared. Accused were Australians, who had arrived by the Ulimaroa four days before. Corroborative evidence was given by several witnesses.
