AN IMMEDIATE SUCCESS I ALL BRITISH STANDARD NEW MODEL 6-CYLINDER ATTRACTING GREAT ATTENTION! Will be demonstrated To-day The interest which a new car model can create among motor owners and the public generally is illustrated by the great amount of attention that the new ‘‘Standard Six” is receiving. This new model makes its appearance in Wellington to-day, and will be driven through the main streets of the city. The probable reason for the greater interest in this new Standard Car is that it is the first high grade British-made six that is to be sold in the medium price field. The new Standard “Six” touring sells at '£sso, the Coupe £595, and the Saloon £650. A general inspection of this new model revealed the fact that for all its medium price, there are many improvements that are to be found only in Very high-priced cars. Combined with a high quality of manufacture and finish, these improvements make the new Standard Six one of the greatest money values in New Zea-
land to-day. The body of the new model is very distinguished in appearance, horizontal vents in the side of the bonnet and long lowsweeping lines adding greatly to the look of the car. All models are roomy and comfortable—the touring car being fitted with the wellknown ‘Standard” all-weather equipment that makes the open models as comfortable as saloons and coupes in wet weather. Front seats on all models are adjustable and the upholstery is of real leather.
The Saloon is fitted with four doors, and its interior is i remarkably up-to-date, being equipped with new and attractive upholstery, and other special fittings. Comfort has been made a special feature of every one of these new Standard Sixes. A glance at the engine and (chassis design convinces one that the car has been made specially to suit Colonial conditions. The ground clearance is 101 inches, the correct clearance necessary for cars used in New Zealand, and the addition of shock absorbers to the front and rear axles ensures perfect riding comfort over
rough and rutted roads. Its RAC rating is 18 horse Power—developing 42—making it a top gear car that will at once appeal to New Zealand drivers who desire speed and hill-climbing ability. The speed of the car can be reckoned by the fact that its top gear ratio is 4.6 in the open cars and 5.25 in the closed models. The efficient overhead valve principle is used in this new car, giving an added efficiency to the engine of this new model. There are many new engine improvements, including the addition of a seven-bearing crank shaft. The great value of the seven-bearing crank shaft in keeping the car’s engine in good condition, ensuring easy, regular performance and smooth running has already been proved—and the addition of this principle to the New Standard Car is just one illustration of the many great improvements that have been effected.
Easy starting is another feature—the 12-volt electric system ensures immediate starting. Absolute safety is guaranteed by ease of steering and efficient fourwheel brakes. The ease with which these brakes act and their quick action makes the car the acme of safety. The brakes are internal expanding, the foot brake acting on all four wheels, the hand brake on the rear wheels, operated by a separate shoe. The car has four speeds forward, and one reverse, operated by righthand gear change; the silent change is accounted for by the fact that the teeth have been specially ground and are made of case-hardened nickelchrome. The car is fitted with an efficient type of vacuum tank that is specially “fool proof,” and regular petrol supply is certain The gasoline tank is in a handy position at the rear of the car. Equipment on all the new “Six” models includes Spare Wheel and Tyre, Luggage Grid, Driving Mirror, Speedometer, 8-day Clock, 2 Dash Lamps, Ash Trays, Oil and Petrol Gauges, Automatic Screen Wiper. Locking arrangement on all doors' Electric Starter and 12-volt Lighting Set with 5 lamps. Switchboard, Electric Horn, Petrol Can and Carrier, License Holder, Spring Gaiters, Shock Absorbers, Plain number Plates, Full kit of tools and spares In bringing out this new car the Standard Motor Company have held the viewpoint that though New Zealanders are patriotic and buy a great deal of British manufactures on the strength of patriotism—it is only fair to them to sell them a car that represents better value than can be obtained elsewhere. In this '‘Standard Six” it is believed that they have obtained this object. The new “Six” has power, endurance, speed, comfort, economy, and a hundred other items that will appeal to all New Zealanders. And, what is more, ti sells at a price that should prove attractive to any intending motorcar owner.
See this new Standard before you buy your next car—watch for it on the streets to-day—you will be more than satisfied for any amount of trouble you may have to go to, to see it.
