AMATEUR ATHLETICS
CYCLE CHAMPIONS’ APPEARANCE.
Australia’s nominees for the cycling events at the Olympic Games have been registering brilliant jierformances cn their tour of the North Island country centres, and they should be in good trim for the contests in which they are to appear in Wellington next Saturday. The two visitors, J. Standen and D. Gray, will have their first real tests at Wellington, as all the best cycling talent from town and country will be on hand for provincial championship honours. With T. Oakley (Wairarapa), C. Flett, J. Carswell, IT. Scarfe. M. Gane, A. Horsfall, and other good riders opposing the Australian champions the cycling is bound to be of exceptional merit and interest. Thio, however, will be but a small portion of a programme of snort, afternoon and night— at Athletic Park in the afternoon, and nt the Basin Reserve at night. Selected athletes from nil pyrts of town and country will be in quest of chnmionship titles, and there will also be a series of specially arranged events. I,adv athletes competing at the meeting will include two frqm Motneka. This championship meeting promises to bo one of the most notable on reeord.
