SALE OF TOBACCO
QUESTION OF CLOSING TIME It is understood that local tobacconists propose to requisition the Minister of Labour to have the closing hours of tobacconists and hairdressers’ shops in the City of Wellington fixed as follow :— Shops observing Wednesday halfholiday : Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 7 p.m.; Fridays, 10 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10.30 p.m. Shops' observing Saturday half-holi-day: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10.30 p.m.; and Fridays, 10 p.m. The following exceptions are provided for:—The closing hour on the two working days immediately preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, respectively, shall be 11 p.m., and on any working day between December 17 and 31 in respect of which an earlier hour than 9 p.m. is provided for, the closing hour shall be 9 p.m. These hours are identical with those which have been observed by local tobacconists for several years past except that the closing hour on Fridays is being extended from 9 p.m. until 10 p.m., and the closing hour on Wednesdays and Saturdays extended from 10 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. Should the Minister gazette the closing hours being sought in. the requisition, all fruit and confectionery shops as well as billiard saloons selling smoking requisites will be obliged to close at the hours so fixed.
