OBITUARY

REV. D. McKEE WRIGHT

Sydney, February G. The death is announced of David McKee Wright, poet and journalist, formerly of Nelson, aged 61. [The late Rev. David McKee Wright was born at Ballynaskeagli, County Down, Ireland, in 1867 He was a son of the late Rev. William Wright, also a writer of considerable attainments and the author of “The Brontes in Ireland” and a number of works on Oriental subjects. The Rev. David Wright came to New Zealand when 20 years of age and entered the Congregational ministry in 1898, being stationed at Nelson for' several years in that capacity. His qualifications as a journalist were such that in 1905 he was appointed editor of the “Nelson Times,” a newspaper which has long since ceased to exist. As a poet the late Mr. Wright was well known to New Zealand readers, though of late years he had lived in Sydney, being a member of the “Bulletin” staff. Among his writings during those years have been “Aorangi, and Other Verses,” “Station Ballads,” “Wisps of Tussock,” and “New Zealand Chimes.”]
