EKETAHUNA NOTES
A meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club was held on Friday evening, chiefly for the purpose of concluding arrangements in connection with the forthcoming sports, to be held on the Domain on February 15. The following officers were appointed for the day:— Referee and local officer, the sub-centre s appointee; starter, Mr. Procter (Danncvirko); track judges. ?fossrs. -I. S. Tripe. T. Bedding, and W. Simnson; track stewards- Messrs G. Brunton and Olsen; field judge. Mr. H. McKenzie; field steward. M>. G. IT. Leslie; dancing judge. Mr. T. W. Watts;'piper. Mr. K nrvsdale; dancing steward Mr. E. W. Watts; call steward. Mr. H N. Steward; result announcer. Mr. .1. R. S. Allen; timekeeper, Mr. G. Jesson; protest committee, Mr. AV. Simpson, president, and secretary; baby show judges, Drs. Simmers and Chadwick. A social committee and sideshow officials wore also appointed. It was decided to invite certain Australian rthletes to give an exhibition of walking. The secretary (Mr. G. W. Brown) reported ‘hat numerous prizes had been donated by tradespeople and others. He further reported that entries for all events were coming in satisfactorily. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Doris Deare, the club’s candidate in the recent Queen Carnival. She was unanimously elected an honorary member for the ensuing veer. Votes of thanks were also .accorded the secretary and others who had worked during the carnival. A lady resident narrowly escaped drownin" while bathing in the swimming pool on Saturday. She temporarily got out of her depth, and was about to sink for the third time, it is stilted, when her nlight was observed by E. Doherty, who. fully clothed, promptly dived in and sncce"ded in rescuing her. During the month of January only 4.3 points of rain f ell in Eketahuna. Of these, two points fell on January 3. Mr. A. D. Grant, manager of the Bank of Now South Wales. Eketahuna. has returned from annual leave spent at New Plymouth and elsewhere. The friends of Mrs. Killinglon (Eketahuna) will regret to hear that she is seriously ill. and is an inmate of a hosnitnl in Pahiatua. Mrs. IT. Kendall and Mrs. Jenkins, of Eketahuna. arc on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr. G. Drummond, with his daughter Joan, of Christchurch, has returned home after a holiday in Eketahuna. Mr. W. Culling 'TTatm.na) is visiting his sister, Mrs Brunton. Parkville. Eketahnna.
Mrs. A. S. Carter, with her son. Maurice. of Eketahuna. has. returned from a month’s visit ;o Napier.
