BLAZE AT MARTON

BUSINESS PREMISES DAMAGED BY Telegraph.—pkess association. Marton, February 6. A fire early on Sunday morning destroyed the stables of Mr. Clarke, a carrier, of Hunterville, and severely damaged a tailor’s shop owned by Mr. W. Hodge, and the offices of the Farmers’ Distributing Company. The flames had a strong hold when discovered. The buildings were very old and are as dry as tinder, so that there was little chance of saving the contents, which included two motor-cars, a motor-lorry, a motor-cycle, several gigs, and stable equipment, but the firemen were able to keep the flames in check. Apart from the damage to the premises named, there was, no loss, but the loss to Mr. Clarke, Mr. Hodge, and the Farmers’ Distributing Company is considerable. It is covered by insurance. The flames lit up the country for miles around. Despite the early hour, a large crowd gathered, and the fire raged for several hours. The total damage is estimated "at £3OOO.
