SWIMMING
HATAITAI CLUB SPORTS. A large number of members, residents, aud friends assembled at Hataitai on Saturday, when the annual sports of the Hatt/y.ii Bathing Club were held. A record number of contestants entered for the numerous events, and in one race, (the 50 yards’ men’s handicap), it was found necessary to swim two heats and a final. Junior events for girls and boys were keenly contested, and close finishes were registered. The men’s 220 yards’ handicap produced 17 starters. Tlie club ehampionship (from Patent Slip Wharf to Club Jetty, about 3SO yards) resulted in a strenuous and exciting contest between tlie defender of tlie title, I'. W. Grant, and R. Baxter, (lie former winning by a narrow margin. Miss N. Townsend, who gave a good display, won the trophy ■ allotted to tlie first lady competitor to finish. In presenting the prizes io tlie successful competitors, tlie president (Captain W. Stuart) congratulated (lie winners, and said the chib was desirous to foster tlie art of swimming, especially amongst tlie boys and girls of tlie district. He expressed thanks Io tlie starter, Mr. F. P. ■A. Coira. for his services, and to tlie Ladies’ Committee for their co-opera-tion.

Boys (under 16): Ken Osborne. 1; A. Scotncv, 2. Married Ladies’ Race: Mrs. D. Olds. 1; Mrs. D. McGreeor. 2. Men’s Handicap. 220 Yards: F. W. Grant, 1; R. Sneddon, 2. Boys (under 12): R. Wilcox. 1; R. Wilson, 2. T.adies (16 years or over): Miss C. Wilcox, 1; Miss J. T.owe, 2. Men’s (no age limit): W. Cirnside, 1; W. Burgess and J. Burgess (dead lieat). 2. Married Men: L. Baxter. 1- W. McGregor. 2 Dual Relay: Miss C. Wilcox and F. V. Johansen, 1: Miss N Tipping and W. Cirnside, 2. Diving Ladies’: Airs. D. McGregor. Men: R. Sneddon. Boys .under 14): K. Walers. Club Chamnionship (winner holds “Boyd Challenge Cup for one year, plus gold cliamnionsliin modal presented by cl”b); F. W. Grant. 1 ; R. Baxter. 2. First Indy conu'etitor in club championship: Miss N. Townsend. Airs. Stuart and ladv assistants were responsible for Hie afternoon tea arrangements. which provided a popular interlude in the ''rogramme. The offieials were:—Handioanpers, Cantain W .1. Keane, Messrs. W.
