LARGE MEETING OF FARMERS

GENERAL DISSATISFACTION Br Tr.LBGHXPH.— Press association. Wanganui, December 9. A mass meeting of North Island farmers here to-night reviewed the influences adverse to the prosperity of the primary producer. A big attendance included farmers from all the North Island provinces, while among the speakers were Mr. W. J. Polson (president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union), Sir Andrew Russell (Hastings), Messrs. A. Stewart (Marton) , W. Perrv (Masterton), John Cobbe (Feilding), W, B. Mathieson (Ektaliuna), J. Vickers (Taranaki). G. K. Wilson (Pio Pio), and W. Morrison (Wanganui). Several members of Parliament were present, as well as the Hon. O. ’J. Hawken end the Hon. A. D. McLeod, neither of whom took any active part in the proceedings. Resolutions were passed calling for the abolition of the Arbitration Court, the establishment of a system of rural credits as recommended by the Royal Commission, extension of overseas markets for Dominion produce, and economy in public expenditure to allow reduced taxation. The tone of the meeting was one of extreme dissatisfaction with the present position of farmers. Similar rallies are to be held in otlicr centres.
