PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS
ABOLITION ADVOCATED. Feilding, December 9. At vesterdav’s meeting of the Orona County Council, reference was made bv the chairman (Air. A. Campbell) to the recent trouble in the freezing industry, and he again expressed his opinion 'in regard to the urgency of abolishing preference to unionists. There were some men, he said, who would net join a union and ’.bat being the case thev c.oul.i not get work at anv trade so’ long as a unionist was available. In cases where there were no unions, men got along in the best of style with their employer. He moved that the meeting, as representative of producers’ interests in the country, take strong exception to the Government not abolishing the preference to unionist clause, which was detrimental to the best interests of the country, and that the resolution be forwarded tn the Government and the member for the district. Councillor AlcF.lroy seconded . the motion, saying that lie elso considered file time was overdue when this step should be takenOther members of the council supported the motion, which was earned unanimously.
