CONCLUSION 01' WOODVILLE MEETING GOTHARD MEMORIAL WON , BY HYNANNA NINE OF SPADES FIRST HOME IN OPEN SPRINT (By Telegraph—From “The Watcher.”) Woodville, December 9. The Woodville summer meeting was concluded to-day in fine weather. The track was in first class oidei. Hynanna won the principal event, the Gothard Memoiial Handicap, by a narrow margin from Bennanee, with Novar third, iTine of Spades beat Royal Damon and Gold Box in the open sprint. The racing throughout the day was good, and favourites had a much better innings than on the first day.

There was a good attendance, but the totalisator receipts were again short of the corresponding day last year, being £11,144, as against £10,803, a decrease of £-2659. Tins made a total of £‘29,463 for the two days, a decrease of £7369 on the meeting twelve months ago. The meeting was verv capably man. „ged by Mr. W. A. Lyon, and his assistants and the/ totalisator staff did good work. PAPATAWA HURDLES. Gold Peak was a better favourite titan Peucus for the hurdles, Gurnion being the best backed of the others. Showing improved ability over the obstacles, Peneus was always in a forward position, and although he hit the last fence he won comfortably. With him in the earlv stages were John .Nod and Axle, but over the last half the only one to threaten trouble was Gurnion'. Bov was a poor third, while Axle, Gold Peak and Santonio headed the bunch NOVICE STAKES. Taranto and Comedic were the favourites for the maiden event, and there was a bit of money for Mint Julep., Although anything but ridden well laranto made light of his task and after being prominent all the way, won comfortably. Comedic was given every chance by his rider, but was unable to beat Trunev for second place, and is not much 'account The remainder of the field were distanced. GOTHARD MEMORIAL. Piuthair was a warm favourite for the principal handicap, Novar being the onlv one of the others well fancied, Benmure, Bennanee, and Hynanna led the field for seven furlongs, Kilfaire and Novar being the best placed of the others. Entering the straight, Benmure was beaten. Bennanee going to the front onlv to be challenged by Hyanna. In a fine finish Hvtianna won by a head. Novar was a moderate third, and at another interval Perle De Leon, Piuthair, and Kilfaire were bunched. Piuthair put in a run on the turn into the straight, but never looked likely.

kiritaki handicap. Spode was a hot favourite for the Hack Scurry, but after having every chance she failed miserably. Roval Time hit the front, followed by Spode, Kilmezzo, Hymestrason, and Polonaise, and thev were at this order turning for home. Once in line, Kilmezzo and Polonaise had a great struggle, the former getting there by a narrow margin. Merle was a good third, with Bank Draft, Lady Cynthia, Royal Time, and Hypnotic following.

RAILWAY HANDICAP. Nine of Spades, Epistle, and Gold Box were at the head of quotations, in the open sprint. Gold Box and Nine of Spades began best, and led the bunch to the straight, where Royal Damon got up on the rails. He challenged the leaders, but Nine of Spades had sufficient advantage to win by half a. length. Gold Box was a very' close third, and the bunch were headed by Standard, Oreum, Bonideer, and Lady Fingers almost in line. JUVENILE HANDICAP. Mr. Lowry’s bracket, Gascony and Doree, was favourite for the two-year-olds’ race from Chelone and Mandy. Gascony and Chelone raced ahead of the field to the straight, where Mandy began to draw up. When kicked up, however, Gascony went away and won very easily, while iMandy beat Chelone for second monev. Shrew was next, followed by Doree, who made up a lot of ground over the last couple of furlongs. The tw<vyear<>ld. races at the meeting showed conclusively that Mr. Lowry is possessed, of smart youngsters, who are going to ' V, R plenty or races, especially to-day s winner. GORGE HANDICAP. Killocra finished up favourite for the Gorge Handicap from Penman and Aeriforn? Penman was first out, and, attended by Beaumont and Blonde, led the bunch to the straight, where Killocra was handv. Penman drew out when in line aiid went on to beat Killocra commendablv. Blonde was a poor third, with Startle, Beaumont, and Polar leading the bunch. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP. No Favours was a fairly good favoiirite for the concluding event from Ladv Killer and General Wai. Lady Killer and Pop Of! made all the running, and as they turned for home General Wai was' their nearest attendant. Lady Killer held her place and won by just over a length, while Pop Off was a fair third Vexatious headed the bunch, followed by Mountain Star and No FavOirs.
