THORNDON SUNDAY SCHOOL. The anniversary celebrations of tho Thorndon Methodist School were continued on Wednesday evening, wj\en tho annual tea meeting and concert were held. Both were largely attended. Mr. J. B. Haddon, who presided at the concert, and gave a short address, was associated with the Molesworth Street and the old Sydney Street Sunday Schools for a period of 47. J years’ continuous active service, but owing to indifferent health, decided to retire from the position of superintendent, and from active participation in the work. Mr. I’. W. Grantham has been appointed superintendent in his stead. A varied programme of items was contributed by the scholars. Recitations were given by Miss Mavis Morris and Master Robert Robb, a dialogue, "The Flock,” by the infant department, an action song by junior girls, dialogue, "Roses and Daisies,” by Bertha Yeatts and Phyllis Nicholls, and "The Three Graces,” by Misses Doris Smith. Mildred Holswick, ami Phyllis Lawrence. Two other dialogues, "The Seasons” and "The Ghost” were particularly well "iven by senior girls and the junior Bible class boys respectively. The various items were interspersed with special hymns and nnthems by the scholars and choir, under ths conductorship of Mr. W. G.‘ Aked, with Misses Jessie Browne (organist) and Doris Worboys (pianist). Towards the close Mrs. Greenslade presented the prizes and diplomas. , The annual report submitted by Mr. J. Cable, secretary, disclosed that although there had been a small decrease numerically, good and faithful work had been accomplished. There were 107 scholars’ names on the roll books. 18 junior Bible class members, and 19 senfor Bible class members. m« l '"'g a grand total of 144. compared with ’.l in the previous year. The staff comprised 1.) officers and teachers, and two auxiliary
teachers. The statement of finances showed the total receipts to be =£73 18s. Id., there being a credit balance of £(i IGs. 9d. Included therein £lO Ils had been handed to N.Z. Home Missions, £6 Os. 3d to the Solomon Islands, and .£2 10s. to the Masterton Orphanage. The offerings for tho present celebrations hail been the brightest for many years past. Complimentary reference was made to the services rendered by Mr. W. G. Aked in training the scholars and choir to such a high standard.
