DUFFERIN STREET CONVENT
BREAKING-UP CONCERT. The pupils of St. Xavier’s Convent, Dufferin Street, held their breaking-up concert in St. Peter’s Hall last night. The programme was most enjoyable. There were four choruses by the school children, "Come to Me, 6 Ye Children,” "White Birds,” “Rainbow Song,” and “O, Leave Your Sheep.” The junior pupils sang “How’d You Like to be a Baby Girl?” "Hush Little Baby,” “The Fairies Invitation,” and presented two playlets, ,r The Golden Whistler” and "The Pied Piper.” The boys of the school sang “Sixpence to Spend,” and two very small and serious girls, Margaret Madden and Althea Castle, sang “Swing Song.” Beatrice Thwaites sang "The Everlasting Love” and “A Hapy Thought,” and Edmund Madden sang “Cobbler Jim.” Maureen Summerhaves danced a bright Spanish dance, Billie Murphy a Russian dance, and Patricia Gore gave an operatic solo. Billie Murphv also gave a violin solo, “Traumerei.” The senior pupils presented a scene from "The Rose and the Ring,” and a scene from “Julius Caesar.” in which the parts were taken bv Clifford Hickson as Caesar, Ruby Callinan as Calpurnia. and F. Cunningham as Decius Brutus. Ngaire Larkin and Gwvnneth Madden took part in a dialogue as "Rosalind and Orlando.” A few of the prizes were distributed, and the rest will be presented at the school this afternoon The principal prizewinners arc: Good conduct (cold medal, gift of Mrs. W. Gamble), Clifford Hickson; Christian Doctrine (gold medal, gift of Mrs. Scott), Aileen Reed; dux cold medal (gift of Mrs. J. L. Burke). Ruby Callinan. Special prizes: Elocution, gold medal, Ntraire Larkin; drawing (silver medal). Freda Fernic; arithmetic (silver medal), Deborah Kirby; music, highest marks (junior division). Pat Yore.
