DUKE OF YORK’S CLOTHES
A REMARKABLE SCHEME If the Wellington Industrial Association has its way, the Duke of York will make a public appearance clad in goods totally manufactured by New Zealand labour during his forthcoming visit to Wellington. “Is he to wear everything of entirely Dominion manufacture?” inquired oue .member of the association at yesterday’s meeting when the subject in question was being discussed. “Certainly,” replied Mr. 1. Campbell, who presided. “We want him to be dressed from head to toe in local things.” “Well, if that’s the case; I don t know where we’ll be able to find him a pair of braces,” remarked Mr. T. J. Burton with a smile. “I’ve hunted all over the place for a pair, but I haven t been able to get them yet.’* (Laughter.) “Oh, our lovely climate will brace him up, I’ve no doubt,’ humorously added another, who went on to say .that the Duke should wear New Zealand socks tie, etc. “Will his studs be Dominion ones, too?” questioned another, who seemed anxious that every single stitch should bear the trade mark of New Zealand enterprise. ~ , “Yes,” replied the president, who stated that in his opinion it would be a fine advertisement for this country to see His Highness in Dominion clothes. As far as the braces were concerned every effort would be made to procure His Highness a pair. . Air. L. R. Partridge: I admit the advertisement will be a good one, but do you think it will show good taste? “Yes, it will be good taste all right, ’ answered the chairman, “and they 11 be good clothes, too, for as you all know, gentlemen, we can manufacture things here as well as they can in any other part of the world.”
