Yesterday His Excellency intended to visit the schools and the hospital, and also the Hauraki.Plains. 'The Minister of Health (Hon. J. A. Young) returned to Wellington yesterday from Hawke’s Bay. The Minister of Lands (Hou, A. D. McLeod) will leave for Wanganui tomorrow to attend a meeting of farmers which proposes to discuss the difficulties under which farming is carried on. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken), who is -leaving Wellington to-day, will also attend the gathering. On Friday Mr. McLeod will proceed to Gisborne, where, in company with the Under-Secretary of Lands (Mr. J. B. Thompson), he is to make an inspection of the Tc Wera block, which was purchased by the Government some time ago for closer settlement purposes.

Sir John and Lady Luke returned to Wellington yesterday morning from Auckland, where they met their son, Mr. Frank W. Luke, who arrived from Vancouver by the Niagara. Mr. Luke has spent the past four years in Great Britain and the United States training as a civil engineer. He arrived in Wellington yesterday with his parents.
The Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) was absent from town yesterday attending a meeting of the Tongnriro National Park Board.
A Press Association message from Ashburton states that Mr. Charles William Purnell, journalist, lias died there, aged S 3. In early life the late Mr. Purnell.-edited the. "Evening Post,” Wellington, the "Wanganui Chronicle,” and the Christchurch "Press.” He was admitted as a barrister in 1878, and continued in practice to the end He became ill during the week-end. Mr. C. Bonner will manage the New 'Zealand tour of the J. C. Williamson Company, headed by Mr. Maurice Moscovite!), which is to commence in Weilimdon’on December 27. Mr W.
