BOXING

AMATEUR BOUTS. Palmerston North, December 5. A number of boxing matches under the auspices of the Maliawatu Boxing Association were staged at the Zealandia Hall last night, when some interesting contests were witnessed. There was a fair attendance of the public and the contestants, who put up a creditable display, were given a good reception. Results:— Paperweights.y-M. Candy drew with E. Powell. Flyweights.—Drinkwatcr defeated G. Powell on points. Bantams.—Holgate (Foxton) defeated Spencer (Palmerston) on points. Featherweights.—T’otbury knocked out Lund in the third round. Lightweights.—A. Candy defeated Stirtmeel on points. Lane defeated Simpson on points. A. S. Katton (Wanganui) did not appear for his lightweight match with Downes (Palmerston). The latter gave an exhibition with Downes, sen.
