THEFT OF A SHIRT
MONEY WANTED FOR SHAVE. Joseph Johnston, alias James Smith, alias Robinson (46 years of age), appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.. on one charge of drunkenuess and ono of theft. Evidence was given that accused stole a shirt, valued at Bs. lid., from the front of the shop of Horuige Ltd., in Cuba Street, and later tried to sell it at a. pawnshop for 18d. ’’tie said he wanted the eightecn-pence for a shave,’ said the pawnbroker in Court, “but I said the shirt was no use to me." When asked if he admitted the charge nf theft accused said be did not reineinner anything about it.. It was announced that there were 118 previous convictions against the man, who was fined 405., in default seven days’ imprisonment, on the first charge, and ordered to take out a prohibition order for twelve months, and on tho second charge was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment.
