INQUEST ON ALL FIRES
WELLINGTON DOES NOT FAVOUR THE IDEA. At yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington Fire Board a letter was received from the Dunedin Fire Board asking if it would be advisable for an inquest to be held into every fire which occurred in the Wellington fire district. Mr. Creeke, superintendent of the brigade, stated that there were about 30 fires a month in Wellington, and when anything of a suspicious nature was observed the police were called in to investigate. He did not think an inquest into every fire at all necessary This opinion was also expressed by various members of the board, who said that the Coroner would have a very busy time indeed if he had to hold an inquest into every fire. Ou */>e motion of Mr. Marcus Marks it was decided to write the Dunedin Fire Board stating that the preesnt procedure was quite satisfactory, as at any time the Coroner could be called in to hold an inquest on a fire.
