CUSTOMS TARIFF
WORK OF REVISION A COMMISSION APPOINTED TO INQUIRE AND REPORT The initial step in connection with the promised revision of the Customs tariff was taken by the Government yesterday in the appointment of a Departmental commission, which will investigate the matter, and furnish a report to the Minister of Finance (Hon. W. Downie Stewart) before the end of June next. Mr.. G. Craig, Controller of Customs, will be the chairman of the commission, and he will have associated with him Mr. G. W. Clinkard (advisory officer of the Industries and Commerce Department), Mr. J. H. _ Forrester (technical adviser and inquiry officer of the Customs Department), and Mr. T. 11. 11. Tanner (examining officer, Customs Department) The commission is invested with the usual authority to conduct any inquiries it deems expedient, and to examine all persons and documents likely to afford information on the subject. The report setting out the commission’s opinions is to reach the Minister of Finance not later than June 30 next.
