THE TALKING FILM
HOW IT WILL RELIEVE THE POLITICIAN. The introduction of the “Pliono-film,” and the “Vitaphone” into polities is fraught with all sorts of possibilities, writes “C'ivis,” and probably no countries in the world will benefit to a greater extent by the new invention that the overseas Dominions with the wide-flung populations. In Australia it takes a member of some of the great Queenslan dand Northern Territory electorates three or four months to got over the ground unless the aeroplane is favoured ns the means of transit. The new talking film will come to the aid of the politician tn a very wonderful way, and relieve him to a very great extent of delivering the same address—or a variation of it—in forty places. All be will do, in the near future, is to make his speech in front of the camera, and as its “eye” catches his every look and every gesture its “ear” will record his flow of cloquence. Then if there are any dull bits or places which may not sound convincing an adjustment can lie made when the film is edited. Once made copies will be dispatched to the candidates’ committee or agent in the various districts. Halls would be engaged in the ordinary way, nnd the public invited to listen to the eddress. and as they listened they would see the life-size picture of the politician, hammering his points. What a relief such a system will he to those politicians who stand in fear and tiembling at the heckler. The latter may heckle till he is blue in the face, but the • “candidate” would not deign to notice him: his eloquence would flow fts uninterruptedly, as the brook. Questions. too, which are often so awkward to answer satisfactorily would be eliminated, or would have to be posted on to the candidate. Tn this manner the talking kinematogranh could aid the politician by speaking in any required minilire of places nt once.
