Aucklarid railway goods sheds are a hive of industry just now, B ’ ld . 1t ,, 1 ® evident that the Christmas rush in the transportation of goods to the c°'’ ntr y has commenced. Yesterday was a exceptionally busy day, and according to officials concerned the prospects are that business will substantially increase during the next week or so. A. this time of year citv merchants arc hard put to it to, supply last minute country orders, and each day sees heavy Snods trains pulling out of Auckland station laden with merchandise for north and south. Inwards goods traffic has also been particularly heavy, especially with the Pukekohe potato crop. Large quantities of this product have been coming to hand, in addition to ordinary tratfic. The Railway Department Las had to handle large quantities of goods e.x ship. There have been several coal boats in port, and a phosphate boat has arrived to provide still further haulage. This week has also seen one of the largest shipments of fruit landed, in Auckland for some considerable limo, and quantities of it have been handled by the railways.
