The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has received cabled advice that the price of New Zealand butter, finest grade, has advanced to 1665. LONDON WOOL SALES PRICES FULLY MAINTAINED. (Rec. December 2. 8.20 p.m.) London, December 1. At the wool sales there was a good selection and competition. and prices were fully maintained. The sales will close on December 19. A New Zealand lot sold was ERA. the top price for which was told., and the average 15a. CHILLED MEAT TRADE CONFLICT OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN INTERESTS. London, December 1. It is leliably stated that the long conflict in the chilled meat trade between big English and American interests for supremacy of the English markets has practically ended. Several large importing firms hare come to an agreement, and it is now only a question of bringing some smaller companies into line. LONDON TALLOW SALES Messrs. Dalgety and CO., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under date December 1:—Tallow. Market unchanged to 6d. per cwt. lower. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date December 1:—Tallow: We quote C.I.F. and E. values for the following descriptions of tallow: Fine mutton, 41s. per cwt.; good - beef. 425.; mixed, 38s. 9d. Our quotations are more or less nominal.
DAIRY PRODUCE MARKET The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following advice from London (last week's quotations in parentheses):— Butter.—New Zealand choicest salted, stored, market firm, 1565. to 158 s. per cwt. (1425. to 1445.)- controlled stock cleared, 160 s. to 1625, per cwt. Cheese.—Controlled, 89s. to °os. per cwt. <B4s. to 855.). Market firm, with upward tendency.
COMMERCIAL ITEMS WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES At the afternoon call yesterday sales were reported of 4J per cent, stocks at £96 17s. 6d., Wanganui Borough 5$ per cent, debentures (1940) at £95 Ids., Union Bank shares (two parcels) at 4)15 55.. and N.Z. Guarantee Corporation ordinary at 10s. sd. There was a good demand for Government stocks and bonds, but there was little demand for shares. There were buyers of the 41 per cents, at £96 155., and the 5J per cents, at <£loo 12s. 6d. N.Z. Breweries 10 per cent, bonds were firm at 245. 9d. There was a moderate demand for bank shares, with bids of £7 19s. for English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, £7 Is. for National Bank of New Zealand, 6s. 7d. for Bank of New Zealand rights, and £l5 4s. for Union Bank. Sellers quoted £l4 2s. 6d. for Bank of Australasia and 60s. 9d. for Bank of New Zealand. N.Z. Shipping preference shares were in demand at £9 25., a rise of 2s. There were buyers of Wellington Woollen ordinary at T 6 10s., Ward and Co. brewery shares at 425. 6d., Burns, Philp and Co. at 395., and Wellington Queen’s Theatre shares at 20s. BANK OF NEW ZEALAND Tha half-yearly meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand will be held at the Bank Chambers at 11 a.m. to-day., and this will be the last of such meetings, for under the banking legislation of last session the bank was empowered to discontinue calling the shareholders together half-yearly. This places the Bank of New Zealand on the same footing as other banks. ’ There will be no presentation of account? at the meeting to-day, but it it understood that the chairman (Sir George Elliot) will deliver a short address dealing briefly with the bank’s affairs and possibly'with current economic conditions.
