FIRE BRIGADE PLANT
SOLD FOR £10,630 IS FIRE BOARDS ACT UNFAIR? “That the offer of the Wellington Fira Board to pay the sum of £10,631) 15s. 6<L for the tire brigade plant be accepted. The above recommendation of the Finance Committee was passed by th.o City Council last evening. Councillor 11. D. Bennett considered that the provisions of the Fire Boards Ant were absolutely unfair and it seemed to him there was room for invprovemeut. Obviously it would pay the City Council to accept a sum con-, siderabfy lower than that assessed if the cash could be obtained. It should be stated that the council was part owner at the end. All the council would get was 5 per cent, for 26 years. His Worship the Mayor pointed out that the council was still naif owner of the property. It was pointed out by several speakers that the Act had now been in force for twenty years, and there was small chance of having it amended. They would simply be told that they had gone into the matter with their eyes open.
