WINTER SHOW BUILDING PROBLEM SHOULD PART OF TOWN BELT BE LEASED? “Wellington Winter Show Association : Re "lease portion Town. Belt at Hutcheson Road for the erection of a Winter Show building.—The Finance Committee recommend that a 42 years’ tease be granted the association, on terms and conditions to be arranged, subject to cancellation if legislation is passed authorising the use of this area for the purpose required The above clause, when it came before the Citv Council last evening, provided matter for a lengthy debate. The Labour members were strong in their opposition to the proposal to lease this part of the Town Belt, and Councillor R McKeen asked that the clause be referred back on the. score of principle. It was pointed out by Councillor M. F Lttckie that they bad the power to lease portions of the Town Belt. They were perfectly within their legal rights. The Mayor' said he had no doubt that they would be able to get the necessarv legislation. The clause was adopted.
