Lady Luke held a garden party at her home in Hiropi Street yesterday' afternoon in aid of the funds of the Citizens’ Day Nursery. There was a, flower stall on the veranda" and indoors a cake stall in charge of Mesdames J. Myers and Leicester. Mrs. Firth had a very interesting stall for the sale of pottery and antiques. Mrs. Murphy had a competition, for which the prize was a Christmas dinner, Miss Moss had one for a box of chocolates, and Mrs. A. Gray one for a kangaroo, which was a clever piece of knitting. On sale also were several other toy animals in the same clever work. Afternoon tea was in charge of Lady Luke, helped by Mrs. Post, Mrs. Gilmer, Miss Townsend, Mrs. K. Luke, Mrs. Charlesworth, and Miss Clark, and Miss Bock. There was a very’ enjoyable musical programme arranged by Mrs. Ivan Levy, who sang herself, as did Airs. Shaw, while Miss Gwen. Shepherd gave a musical monologue, and Miss Mavis Tolan plaved the piano. The funds of the nursery should be materially benefited. School impositions written on clay, business receipts dnlv stamped, and a Inbel from the first known museum in the world are the “finds” of Professor Woolier while excavating in 'fosonotamia.
