HEALTH CAMP AT TURAKINA

VISIT OF HON. R. A. WRIGHT.

The Hon. Mr. Wright, Minister of. Education, visited the annual health camp of the Wanganui Education Board at Turakiu*. He was met at the gate by the camp band under Sergeant Jo-; cobs, and later by Mr. Lethbridge, and - ' Dr. Elizabeth Gunn. Mr. Wright w’as very interested in the children, and in the work that was necessary to bring mm nearer the normal standard. He F arrived in time to see the boys at sunbathing. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn then escorted the visitor through the camp, explaining the various points of interest. Mr. Wright commented favourably upon the value of tooth brush drill, which he observed with great interest. After the salute had been, played by the. camp band (from the;. Victoria Avenue School),, and the flag'.-Ihoisted, Mr. Lethbridge introduced the Minister to the children. ; • "‘i,. Mr. Wright expressed his' pleasure at being able to pay the camp a visit and 1 be then, on behalf of the Government, thanked Mr. and Mrs, Lethbridge,- for so kindly providing-the property, . buildings, and all they did for the use of the children, anil also Dr..' Elizabeth Gunn for so capably organising and managing such a camp for the benefit of these underweight children. He also thanked the students, from the Wellington Teachers’ Training College,_ and the staff for coming out and assisting to make the camp a success. Mr. Wright was very favourably impressed by the work of the camp, and wished that such work could be carried out in other educational entres—the difflcutly was to find another Mr. Lefh-, bridge. Mr. Wright left for Wellington by the New Plymouth express after having had t for his lunch some of the camp faro, ' which he described as excellent. •
