SALE OF A “TROTTER”
TO A HIKURANGI MAN SELLER FOUND GUILTY OF FRAUD (Rec. December 1, 10.40 p.m.) Melbourne, December 1In the Criminal Court Percy William Davidson was found guilty of obtaining £9O from Lionel Percy Ford, of Hikurangi, New Zealand, with intent to defraud. The prosecution alleged that Davidson contracted to sell a thoroughbred three-year-old trotting filly, sired bv the fastest pacer ever imported into Australia to Ford for £BO Ihe latter cabled the money and received in return for it a twenty-one-year-old milk cart horse, valued at 50s. Davidson stated from the dock that he advertised the filly for sale. He knew where he could buy her, but when he made the bargain with Ford he was unable to obtain her, and purchased the other horse in the sale ring, The horse showed great speed when tried, and he shipped it to New Zealand. Davdison then wrote to Ford stating he would refund the money if Ford was not satisfied. Davidson was remanded for sentence. He admitted a conviction for forgery in New Zealand.
