WINTER SHOW ASSOCIATION
no NEW BUILDING FOR NEXT SHOW. Tho president (Mr. R? H. Nimmo) pregided over a good attendance of the Wellington Show Association at a meeting h lt was staled that the membership of the Show Association at present stood at 1050; of these, 121 members were elected at the meeting. The combined executive reported that •after many interviews with His Wor,Bhip the Mayor and Mr. W. H. Bennett, the acting-chairman of the subcommittee, and the city eolicitor, an agreement wa? come to embodying the general terms upon which the John Street site was asked for. The council later adopted the report es presented , by the special committee embodying 'these terms, giving the association the ' right to use the grounds on the conditions set out in their memorandum, subject, however, to a special condition that nothing should be done until the 'Act has been passed by Parliament. On receipt of this the manager interviewed the Mayor, pointing out the difficulties of the position as it stood. The Executive Committee met to consider the matter and adopted the managers recommendation that the executive, together , with representatives of the ratepayers associations and other bodies, wait on ' the Finance Committee _ r-f the City Council at its next meeting. A letter was recetvort from the architects pointing out that unless an agree- ’ ment with the council could be finalised at once it would be impossible to have the whole of the buildings erected for the next show, but suggested that part of the buildings could he gone cn with. In view of the general situation, the executive is of opinion that there is no possibility of nny building being in readiness for next winter show and are taking other steps with a view to providing other accommodation. Tn the meantime steps are being taken to carry out the executive’s recommendations in regard to the lease, and the whole question regarding the tenure will be discussed bv the executive as soon as the council’s decision is known and a report will be made accordingly. The report was adopted.
