ABANDONING A CHILD

ONLY TECHNICALLY GUILTY. Dominion Special. Christchurch, November 29. A young woman appeared before Bis Honour Mr. Justice Stringer this alteriloon for sentence on a charge of unlawfully abandoning a child. His Honour said that the case was hardly cne of abandoning a child in the sense of the word, though technically it came within the definition. The probation officer’s report was favourable, and His Honour thought that it would perhaps be undesirable that the woman be placed on probation, as this would entail reporting herself from time to time, which might imperil her position. She would be ordered to come up for sentence if called upon. His Honour ordered her name to be suppressed.
