BOATING MISHAPS

EIGHTEEN-FOOTER CAPSIZED. Dominion Special. Auckland, November 29. An 18ft. boat, Scud, owned by E. Denham, of Bayswater, capsized off Rocky Bay, Wnibeke, on Saturday afternoon while taking part in a cruising race to Awaron Bay. A hard westerly wind was blowing, and when holding a good position Scud, which was carrying a fair amount of sail, was struck by a squall, which overturned her. The launch Wainui and the yacht Alexa immediately went to the assistance of the Scud’s crew nnd took them to Awaroa Hay. Later in the afternoon the launch Teina left Awatoa Bay in search of Send, and was successful in finding her. She was then towed into Awaroa Day and placed on an even keel. In. the same race the 16-footer Murn, which was leading her larger rivals, had the mast carried away when within 100 yards of the finishing line. The craft was towed into the bay.
