NEW PLYMOUTH SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press association. New Plymouth. November 29. Occurrences which startled the neighbourhood of Mangorei some weeks ago had their sequel in the Supreme Court to-day, when Harris Leonard Spence, a farmer, was charged on four counts with arson and theft. On the day in question haystacks and a cowshed on neighbouring farms were set afire in quick succession, and there was considerable stir 'in the district. The hearing was not completed to-day. It is understood tlie defence will be’based on the mental condition of accused. Fisher Kapa, a native of Waitara, was found guilty on one of four charges of carnal knowledge. Sentence was deferred.
