WIDOW OBTAINS £750 IN DAMAGES

Dominion Special. Auckland, November 29. Arising out of an accident on the wharves.on September 24, when Samuel Russell, a waterside worker, was killed through being struck by a falling empty coal basket, Russell’s widow, Lydia Jane Russell (Mr. Sullivan) brought a claim. for compensation against the Union Steam Ship Company Ltd. (Mr. Bagfiall) in the Arbitration Court. The Court was asked only to assess the amount of compensation, and that was done at the full amount claimed, £750, plus £29 10s, expenses and £7 7s. costs.
