PETONE AFFAIRS
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING OP BOROUGH COUNOIL. The Petone Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting last night, tho Deputy-Mayor, Councillor G. Cook, presiding. Other councillors present were:— Messrs. 0. P. Brocklehnnk. A. Scholefield. E. N. Campbell, W. 11. Edwards, and V. Jacobsen. It was decided to send tho borough engineer to represent the council at the Society of Engineers’ Conference, to be held in Auckland on March 14 next. The Ambulance Van .’ommittee was granted its annual subsidy of £lO. It was agreed that the work of the sewerage extension in Jessie and Oollins Streets, be proceeded with as soon as possible. In response to a letter from the Petone Beautifying Association, asking that a traffic inspector be appointed in the borough. it was decided to write to the Suburban Highways Board requesting that they take control of the esplanade and all the other streets in the borough under their jurisdiction.
