Dominion Special. Wanganui, November 29. One of the outstanding features in connection with the end of the school year functions at. tlie Sacred Heart (.-onvent, St. John's Hill, will be Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute,” a most ambitious undertaking for a school. Herbert Morris Heron, aged 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Heron, was accidentally shot by a pea rifle. The lad went shooting with his brother and- another lad. and was getting through a fence when the rifle discharged, and the bullet entered the skull through the lower jaw. At the time of the fatality tho lad was not in the sight of his companion*, but was picked up a few min utes later. Heavy rain and cold, piercing _ winds which assumed almost hurricane-like velocity swept Wanganui throughout the week-end. and caused minor damage to fences and gardens. The higher levels o the city and suburbs, caught the full violence of the wind, and in some qiiartors fences were levelled, while gardens nere transformed into unkempt wildertiesses. , , , ... Both the Inalia and the Invercargill, which arrived in port yesterday from Wellington. experienced exceptionally rough trips on the run up the coast. Although the vessels were fairly well loaded they were tossed about like corks. During Saturday night the gale increased in furv. and the fierce wind lashed the tops of the waves into fury, and kept the ships continually enveloped in blinding spray as high as the tops o the funnels. After cruising round the vessels reached port in safety. Practically all outdoor * port was postponed on Saturday owmc to the unfav ournble climatic conditions.
