WOMAN IMPRISONED

UNLAWFUL CONVERSION OF CAR

Catherine Donovan, a married woman (aged 40). was sentenced to three months'" imprisonment by Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrates Court on Saturday, for unlawfully converting to her own use, but not so as to bo guilty of theft, a motor-car, valued at £2OO, the property of Christopher Putnock. Accused admitted stealing a quantity of meat, valued at £1 16s. lid., the property of the same person. "Tho facts of this case me rather unusual,’’ said Senior-Sergeant Lander, who prosecuted. "Mr. Pinnock left his ear in Rolleston Street last evening, and accused, who was in the vicinity, accosted a passer-by, and asked him to drive her to town in the car. which she said, belonged to her. The man drove her to a house in Taranaki Street, and she went inside, taking the meat with her. While the man was waiting for her to return the owner of the car arrived. Accused was later identified in the street. She has been several times previously convicted.” . Mrs. Glover, tho female, probation officer, said that in her opinion, drink was the cause of Donovan’s lapse. For stealing the meat accused was convicted and discharged.
