VESUVIUS IN ERUPTION
STREAM OF LAVA FLOWING DOWN MOUNTAIN
(Rcc. November 29, 0.30 a.m.)
Rome, November 28.
Vesuvius is in eruption, and a cataract of lava has invaded the northern slopes. At present it is from 1 to 6 yards broad and 6 feet deep, and extends al-' most 1500 yards from the crater, which is. hurling great fragments of incandescent material' into the air, accompanied by shattering explosions. The observatory professor states that the lava stream is moving too slowly to reach Terzigno. The outbreak is due to an accumulation of rainwater in the crater. The professor predicts that the mountain will be moderate in a few days.
