OF MR. COYLE TO HOSPITAL AT NEWCASTLE
PROTEST OF LABOUR DAY
COMMITTEE
'(Rec. November 28, 5.5 p.m. I Sydney, November 28. The appointment o( Mr. Coyle, ol Wellington, a? secretary of the Newcastle Hospital is meeting with strong local opposition. A meeting of the Labour Day Committee strongly criticised the action of the Hospital Board in appointing a New Zealander to the position without first calling for applications locally The committee is calling a conference of representatives of district industrial union l - to consider the withdrawal of industrial subscriptions to the hospital, totalling £30,000 . annually until the position has been ' satisfactorily adjusted. Other public bodies also expressed disapproval of the appointment. lhe Mayor of Newcastle declared that he ’ could not understand the president -f the Hospital Board filling the position without first calling fot general ipnh cations, and -.tate.l V.is intention to "Ml a public meeting p'c'esf against the appointtrtnt.
